Crested Butte makes it easy to go vehicle-less. That being said, there are some great things to see if you do have wheels. You decide!

One of the great things about Crested Butte is the FREE bus service. The bus does a loop through town (passing the grocery store on the way) and then heads up to the base area of the mountain and back. The closest bus stop is only 1 block from the front door. These buses have ski racks on the side and bike racks on the front to make things as easy as possible for you.

The busses are all painted by local artists..some beautiful, others kind of out there. I love it! I've posted a map of the town bus route below so you can get a better idea of how easy it is. Remember, Elk Ave is the main drag in town and where all the great restaurants, bars and shopping are located. Easy, breezy.

With Car?

Car rentals - At the Gunnison airport (GUC) you can rent from Budget, Dollar, Hertz and Avis. The drive from the airport (North on highway 135) is an easy 30+ minute drive through some stunning nature. Of particular note is the pair of Bald Eagles which has been nesting in the trees on the west side of the road just north of the tiny town of Almont. Keep your eyes open.

Non-rentals - Did you drive from Denver? I hope you stopped at Cottonwood Hotsprings on the way! If its summer, you can drive over Cottonwood Pass (12 miles of windy dirt road) and cut at least 40 minutes off the drive.

There is street parking at the Cabin and I've always been able to park right at the front door. There are no parking restrictions in the summer but in the winter, please pay attention. I've posted the restrictions beside the front door and you will get ticketed if you don't follow the rules (and hopefully not towed like yours truly a while back!)

Carless?

The Alpine Express offers transportation between Crested Butte and both the Gunnison Airport and the Montrose Airport. Once you're in town, the free local bus (or your feet) can take you wherever you need to go.
